11-13-2012 Hurricane Relief Donation Drive
NewJerseyFireGround.com in connection with the IAFF 3249 and the Colingswood Fire Department held a Donation drive for hurricane victims.
The first part of the drive was advertised solely on facebook by NewJerseyFireGround as the "FD shirts for brothers in need." It was designed for Firefighters and Fire Departments to donate FD station shirts to provide for the brothers that lost everything including their homes. Within 2 hours of the post being placed on facebook we started recieving shirts in the station. Within 24 hours, we had hundreds of shirts. Fire Departments from around the area dropped off their shirts while UPS delivered shirts from all over the Country. Firefighters wanted to help, and we were able to provide a couple thousand shirts to firefighters in NJ and NY. The response was overwhelming and everyone wanted to do more.
Part 2 is when NewJerseyFireGround teamed up with the IAFF 3249(Camden County Local) and the Collingswood Fire Department. After hearing peoples stories and seeing the destruction the idea was born to start a food/clothing/toiletries drive. The message was posted on facebook and the IAFF website only. From there it was relayed through school systems, churches, coffee shops, boy and girl scout troops. Everyone wanted to help. We recieved so many items within the first 48 hours we had to relocated a spare engine out of the firehouse just to store the items. Thousands of pounds of Ice Tea were donated from Cold Star in Mt. Ephraim. Catelli Brothers in Collingswood donated two pallets of boxes that made it possible to deliver the items. Chief Medes from Westmont Fire provided his trailer for two weeks to allow us to deliver the items which went all over the state.
We were able to provide directly to families in need, shelters with specific needs, and Fire Departments.
We would like to thank everyone who donated, sorted, delivered all the supplies. We were able to provide to so many people in their time of need.
