05-01-2011 (Gloucester County) National Park- 140 Riverview Ave Cattails Tavern All Hands
At approximately 0630 hours a passer by called the county communications center for a large amount of smoke coming from the Cattails Tavern on Riverview avenue in National Park. 800 arrived on location to find a 1 story masonry commercial with a heavy smoke condition. The working fire box was filled. Companies from District 8 (National Park) and District 7(Westville) responded and found the fire to be located in the basement of the building. Crews went in service with a 2 1/2’’ hand line and began to force doors and ventilate the building. All hands brought in Station 6-3 (Colonial Manor) Rescue 3-2 (Bellmawr) Ladder 5-1 (Gloucester City) Ladder 3-3 (Bellmawr Park). A second RIC, Gibbstown (21) was assigned to the Job due to the size of the building. Companies made a quick stop on the fire and began to start ventilation operations. One Firefighter was taken to a local hospital for an injury to the thumb. The cause is being investigated by the Gloucester County Fire Marshals office.
