2-4-2010(Gloucester County)WOODBURY HEIGHTS -Chestnut&Academy St.-2nd Alarm Building
A box was dispatched in Woodbury Heights for a reported building fire at 3 p.m. Gloucester County Communications advised responding units that an off duty Police Officer was on location reporting smoke from the warehouse. Command arrived and reported a large 1 story warehouse with heavy smoke showing. Crews stretched line and went into operation with a hand line before conditions worsened and the evacuation tones were sounded. Command made multiple special calls for additional manpower. Companies experienced low water pressure while fighting the fire. Command requested the Tanker Task Force to the scene. Companies surrounded the building as fire went through the roof. Master streams and Ladder Pipes were placed in operation as well as a Tanker Operations. Crews battled the flames as the heavy smoke blanketed the surrounding neighborhood. The warehouse, which was the vacant Door Fabrication Services, Inc, measured 231,000 square feet. Police took 2 men into custody on the fire ground. These 2 men were later charged with Burglary and Arson. The blaze reached 2 alarms with multiple special calls. Tankers from Gloucester County and surrounding counties worked to provide water. Crews remained on scene well into the night hitting hotspots. The fire was brought under control with no injuries to firefighters.
