6-26-2009(Camden County)CAMDEN 859 N. 28th St.-2nd Alarm Dwelling
At 1:33 p.m. a dwelling fire was reported at 928 N. 28th Street on the East side of Camden. A full box was dispatched. Camden County Communications advised responding units they were receiving multiple calls for a house on fire. All occupants were reported to be out of the dwelling. Engine 11 arrived on location and reported a two story dwelling with heavy fire throughout. The all hands box was struck. At the 10 minute mark Car 3 reported a two story wood frame dwelling with heavy fire on the 1st floor. Car 3 requested the 2nd alarm. At 1:53 Car 3 reported all firefighters were out of the building and accounted for as companies were setting up for master stream operations. Companies performed a defensive attack as Pennsauken and Collingswood went into operation with Ladder Pipes and Engine 11 with the deck gun in service. Companies also placed multiple 2 ½” hand lines in operation. At 2:10 Car 3 reported multiple master streams were in operation with the bulk of the fire knocked down. The water department was notified to increase pressure for city water. The American Red Cross was called for the 1 displaced occupant. The Fire Dept. Mechanic was also called to the scene as multiple apparatus began to overheat. The fire was reported to have started in the vacant dwelling spreading to the attached occupied exposure. The fire was placed under control at 2:33. The Camden City Fire Marshals have the fire under investigation. While crews were battling the fire another fire was reported one block away. Camden firefighters along with mutual aid were called for a working fire. The 2nd fire went to all hands. No injuries were reported at either fire.
